Internationally acclaimed Chinese composer and winner of the 73rd Oscar best original score for the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tan Dun, is scheduled to conduct performances of The Map and Water Concerto at the opening ceremony of the 2013 Zhangjiajie International Country Music Festival.
Growing up in the countryside of Hunan Province, Tan was inspired by its mountains and rivers. Out of this inspiration came The Map and Water Concerto, which are acclaimed as green music and organic music. According to Tan, The Map is drawn from the mountains of Zhangjiajie, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, while Water Concerto is based on the Tuojiang, the mother river of Ancient Phoenix Town. Insiders believe that Tan's “homecoming” performance in Hunan is bound to add luster to the festival.
