The 2013 Zhangjiajie International Country Music Week is an international musical and cultural exchange event to be held at the world natural heritage site Zhangjiajie, hosted by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, and organized by the Department of Culture of Hunan Province, Tourism Bureau, Hunan Province as well as the Zhangjiajie Municipal People's Government.

In May of 2009, Zhangjiajie, famous for its marvelous mountains and sparkling water, welcomed 24 international and 7 domestic country/folk bands. Bringing greetings from all around the world, these bands took the stage to create celestial music in this beautiful natural resort. The colorful and ethnically diverse music groups gave a total of 30 performances in five days with the sky as the background and the field as a stage.

From the opening ceremony to show tours, melodious songs and graceful figures were integrated as a whole with the magical and picturesque mountains and streams.

From Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) Cave to Tianzi Mountain, we were duly impressed by the artists’ spirit and dedication to music.

From their arrival to their departure, musical enthusiasm and charisma enabled these artists to build a bridge between Zhangjiajie and the world.

At the invitation of Zhangjiajie city, thanks to the positive impact of the first  Country Music Week, country bands and music lovers from all over the world gathered again in the gorgeous city in September 2011. Just as the mayor said: “It was a beautiful time in honor of that “John Denver spirit”; it was a dialogue between Nashville and the world natural heritage site; it was the harmonious music of nature. We sincerely invite you to Zhangjiajie to enjoy the peaceful harmony between music and nature. Friends from around the world, welcome to friendly Zhangjiajie.” About 600 musicians from 32 overseas bands and 7 domestic bands responded to that invitation in 2011.

In 2009, a proposal was made in the article Improving National Image Through Soft Power to commend Zhangjiajie’s initiative to promote the city by holding a country music festival. The launch of International Country Music Week in Zhangjiajie is a sincere attempt to integrate natural scenery with culture, to carry forward the musical arts, and to promote cross-cultural communication. At the same time, it is an effort to promote cooperation between Hunan and the world in the arena of artistic culture while boosting Hunan tourism.

This year, we have invited country music bands and musicians from all around the globe to showcase their talents in Zhangjiajie. Visitors, get ready for a musical smorgasbord!
